The Global Emergence Initiative, or GEI is a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping and counselling those, who have recently gone through their own Emergence, with a particular focus on young people. Founded by Samira Al-Jaffrey, an Iranian businesswoman who watched as her own twin daughters went through their own traumatic Emergences, the organisation has flourished in a world newly populated by manifesting superhumans.

The Initiative proactively works with research laboratories and geneticists to identify areas and demographics of people statistically most likely to undergo Emergence, and places counsellors and experts in those areas to act as a first point of contact. For simple cases, their officers simply visit the new superhuman and talk them through the process, staying in the area as a liaison until they are happy and feel more settled with their new way of life. The officers also have connections to other superhumans in the area, as well as academics and trainers to help the new superhumans to cope with the radical change that has occurred.

In more drastic cases, the newly Emerged superhuman may be brought into one of the dozens of care centres purpose built by the Initiative and known as Havens. These centres have state of the art medical technology, as well as special areas for rest and relaxation, meditation and yoga classes. Moreso they provide a safe and secure space for struggling young superhumans to come to terms with the almighty changes to their bodies, and to safely deal with them in the company of others who understand, and have been through the same or similar processes themselves.

Even among all the squabbles between superheroes and villains, the one thing that remains an immutable fact is that all Havens and other properties owned by the Global Emergence Initiative are off-limits and must be protected at all costs. It would truly be a ruthless individual who could attack one of these facilities and risk the lives of everyone inside.
